It Began with One Sick Child
Professionals Miracles Foundation was started because of Jamie Leigh Romano and the extraordinary care she received at The Children’s Hospital. Her family tells the story best...
Jamie Leigh Romano entered this world like most children. She had no complications, no signs of illness or disease. She was the youngest of three and completed our family. Everything was going great for 13 months. Then on September 28, 2000, we had the worst doctor's visit you can ever imagine.
We had taken Jamie in to see the doctor because she started to look a little jaundiced. After eight hours of blood tests they told us to go directly to Children’s Hospital: Jamie had leukemia. We knew nothing about Children’s Hospital at that time. We didn’t even know how to get there. For the next six months, though, this became our second home. We spent our days at the clinic, and many nights on the Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Wards.
Through all of this we saw first hand the commitment Children’s Hospital has for its many patients. This is what Professionals Miracles Foundation's fundraising events - a charity golf tournament and 5k race - are for: to help other families of sick children and to help these great people at Children's with their commitment to help others, while finding a cure for this deadly disease.
Jamie is a living testimony to their efforts. We would all like to thank you in advance, for Jamie, and all those little kids who have had to, or might have to, spend time at Children’s Hospital, in a fight for their lives.
Thank you.
Together we can race to the cure.
The Romanos
Since that initial effort, Professionals Miracles Foundation has found many more families and their children in need. We are proud to have helped them and we want to enlist YOUR support in expanding our help to other sick and injured children and their families by participating in our charity events, including Miles for Miracles and Birdies for Blessings.
